Teen Trade School

Teen trade schools were designed by teenagers to share there skills with each other in exchange for simple barter items

Teen Trade School was an alternative learning space that rans on barter, residents of all ages were encouraged to bring along an item that contributes to the session. Anyone could teach anything, something they have skills in or are keen to explore.

Teen Trade School started when a resident named Jasmine who mentored a group of young people aged 14-16 wanted to use the Martins Corner shop as a new location for their activities. The group were already making beauty products and sharing skills amongst themselves and were excited by the idea of hosting sessions in the programme for their neighbours.

Teen Trade Schools specifically encouraged teens to share their incredible skills, but it’s open to all ages.

Previous sessions included ‘CoconutCare For Your Hair’,‘Jollof Rice & Sides’ and even ‘WigLife (How To Make A Wig)’.
