Practical resources for inclusive making spaces
The manuals below were compiled over five years of invaluable insight from Everyone’s Warehouse, an open-access makerspace set up during the six years of the Every One Every Day Barking & Dagenham project.
They have been designed to assist anyone opening or operating a making-led space and are available for download and printing below, providing lists of equipment to set up the spaces, maintenance checks to look after them and some simple practical activities to work with people and activate them.
What’s included
Workshop Area
Each manual covers different practical-making workshops inspired and informed by five years of experience co-creating making spaces with the residents using them. The manuals include recommended specialised tools and equipment, how-to guides for the machinery and frameworks to encourage reflective learning.
Signage
Also included is an extensive list of generic signage and labels specific to each workshop area. These have been designed to be printed to assist in the set-up and continued organisation of making-led spaces.
Co-care
The manuals include a list of co-maintenance and shared operations checklists, which keep the spaces safe, functional and help to foster a sense of attachment in participants accessing the workshop area.
Health & safety
Finally, some templates for risk assessments of the different workshops, along with safety notices and posters have been included for download
Please note it is important to conduct risk assessments specific to the space in which you are operating.
Maker Manuals
The maker manuals are included within several of the Workshop Manuals and contain simple step-by-step guides to encourage the use of the workshop areas. They have been developed to correspond with the recommended list of tools and equipment. These are not available for all activity spaces listed below, however a template is provided to capture your own.
