Show me a Sign
This project was a fun new way to learn British sign language and communicate with others!
Show Me a Sign was first imagined as a project that could help include more residents with different access needs, and introduce more people to British Sign Language! Like all the Every One Every Day projects, Show Me a Sign welcomes everyone and there is prior knowledge needed. The project opens up the chance to engage and celebrate people who speak any language and showcase the diversity of this amazing Borough!
As well as having a go at learning and sharing with friends and neighbours, the project can take on many forms, such as digital content and inclusion in other projects such as performances.
The sessions covered beginner-level sign language, including topics like the alphabet, self-introduction, and discussing topics of interest.
These sessions included varied activities from flower crowns to bouquet making! They took place during the summer programme at the Wilds in Barking Riverside, and were co-designed with local residents who had an interest in connecting with the nature surrounding the local area.
